PORN ON PAUSE: PRIVATE VIEW
London Drawing Group is proud to present Frances Stanfield: Porn on Pause.
Porn is consumed on a vast scale, as a serial form of distracted viewing and as an endless source of personal and shared inspiration. Our sex lives, who we share it with, and what we consider pleasurable is shaped by the repeat experience of watching porn over and over again.
Porn on Pause breaks into this cycle of repetition. By reframing filmed pornography as handprinted art, the flow is stilled and we have a chance to contemplate the pornographic image afresh.
Unlike repeated prints or images that imply ownership and control, the unique form of the monoprint more readily renders our individual sexual experience and imperfect human desire. This change in process and context provides an invitation to discuss human sexuality and the many and varied questions that surround it.
“Porn on Pause” is intended to intrigue and provoke conversations within and beyond the exhibition space. Playing with the presentation of imagery made for public consumption, Frances invites you into a space to explore thoughts, responses and experiences alongside a panel led open talk.
Post-it notes will be available for anonymously asking questions and making statements.
