AFTER RUBENS; THE LANDSCAPE OF BODY. EXHIBITION PRIVATE VIEW
London Drawing Group is proud to present Luisa-Maria MacCormack in a solo show of Drawings, Paintings and Sculpture.
This is a series that explores the line between traditional art-making approaches and freedom of expression. Exploring the act of translation and the body, working from the Masters and how traditional techniques and knowledge can be reimagined in the contemporary art-world.
This exhibition will combine a diverse range of works on paper, canvas and sculpted works generated from an in-depth study of Peter Paul Rubens' The Fall of The Damned (in partnership with the British Museum and the Bridget Riley Art Foundation). Experimental paintings and sculptures take their cues and inspiration from studies from the Masters and one another, continually metamorphosing both figures, techniques and the dialogues they create, forming a narrative 'Landscape of Body' that challenges the viewer to engage on many levels with the work.
In addition to the through-running themes of translation and learning from the Masters, these works are also a comment on contemporary art and education, and the purpose of galleries and museums as learning resources in the modern world, but above all these paintings are a writhing celebration of the body, abstract, dreamlike and transient in nature, these paintings are the result of a process of raw self-exploration and an homage to a deep artistic heritage.
